Relugolix is an oral medication, often used in combination with estradiol and norethindrone acetate to form the fixed-dose combination product relugolix. It is mainly indicated for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding associated with uterine fibroids and moderate to severe pain associated with endometriosis.
What Are the Indications of Relugolix?
Management of Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Associated with Uterine Fibroids
Relugolix is indicated for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding caused by uterine fibroids (leiomyomas) in premenopausal women.
Clinical trials have shown that the use of this medication can significantly reduce menstrual blood loss and improve patients' quality of life.
Studies have demonstrated that over 70% of patients experienced a significant reduction in menstrual blood loss after 24 weeks of treatment, and some patients even developed amenorrhea.
Management of Pain Associated with Endometriosis
This medication is also indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe pain caused by endometriosis in premenopausal women.
Clinical trials have confirmed that relugolix can effectively relieve dysmenorrhea and non-menstrual pelvic pain, improve patients' ability to perform daily activities, and reduce dependence on analgesic drugs.
Usage Limitations
It should be noted that the duration of relugolix use should be limited to 24 months or less.
Long-term use may lead to decreased bone mineral density, and this bone loss may be irreversible.
During the treatment period, regular bone mineral density monitoring is required, and the risks and benefits of continuing treatment should be evaluated based on the doctor's advice.
