Triumeq (Abacavir, Dolutegravir and Lamivudine Tablets) is a fixed-dose combination preparation used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection, containing three active ingredients: abacavir, dolutegravir, and lamivudine. As a prescription medication, obtaining it correctly and ensuring its authenticity are of great importance for treatment efficacy and patient safety.

How to Purchase Triumeq

Overseas Purchase

Patients may choose to consult and purchase Triumeq at hospital pharmacies or regular drugstores in countries or regions where the medication has been launched.

Since drug prices may be affected by factors such as regional differences and exchange rate fluctuations, patients need to make a budget and plan in advance before purchasing.

Purchase through Medical Service Institutions

Patients can consult domestic overseas medical service institutions that cooperate with international pharmacies or pharmaceutical companies.

These institutions can usually provide legal import channels and offer professional consultation and guidance.

Precautions for Purchasing Triumeq

Genetic Testing Must Be Conducted Before Use

Abacavir, one of the components in Triumeq, may cause severe allergic reactions, and this risk is closely associated with the HLA-B*5701 genotype.

Before initiating treatment, doctors must arrange HLA-B*5701 allele screening for patients.

If the test result is positive or the patient has a history of allergy to abacavir, the use of this product is strictly prohibited.

Assessment of Hepatitis B Infection Status

All HIV-infected patients should undergo hepatitis B virus (HBV) testing before using Triumeq.

If the patient has concurrent hepatitis B infection, unauthorized discontinuation of Triumeq may lead to severe acute exacerbation of hepatitis B.

When necessary, concurrent anti-hepatitis B treatment should be administered, and the entire treatment course should be managed under the guidance of a doctor.

Attention to Dosage Form Differences

Triumeq is available in two dosage forms: regular tablets and oral suspension tablets (PD dosage form), which are suitable for adults and children of different body weights respectively.

The two dosage forms cannot be replaced equivalently by milligram (mg) content. During purchase and use, the dosage form must be strictly verified to avoid misuse.

Caution Regarding Drug Interactions

Triumeq has interactions with a variety of drugs. For example, concurrent use with dofetilide is contraindicated, and dosage adjustments are required when used together with certain anticonvulsants, rifampicin, etc.

When visiting a doctor, patients should proactively inform the doctor of all medications they are currently using, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and health supplements.

How to Identify the Authenticity of Triumeq

Inspect the Drug Packaging

The outer packaging of authentic Triumeq has clear printing, bright colors, and no blurred or overlapping text.

The packaging box should clearly display information such as the batch number, expiration date, and manufacturer (ViiV Healthcare).

A desiccant is usually included in the bottle, and the bottle cap is equipped with a child-resistant closure.

Verify the Drug Appearance

Triumeq regular tablets: Purple, oval, biconvex film-coated tablets, engraved with "572Tri" on one side.

Triumeq PD oral suspension tablets: Yellow, capsule-shaped, biconvex tablets with a strawberry cream flavor, engraved with "SVWTU" on one side.

If the color, shape, or engraved text of the tablets does not match the above description, or if the tablets are damaged, deliquescent, or have an unusual odor, they should be highly suspected of being counterfeit.
