Flopropione Tablets (Cospanon) is a drug indicated for relieving smooth muscle spasms of the hepatobiliary tract, pancreas and urinary system.
What are the Precautions for Medication with Flopropione Tablets (Cospanon)?
Dosage and Administration
(1) Usual dosage for adults: 40–80 mg orally three times a day, to be taken after meals.
(2) For patients with urinary calculi: the usual dosage in urology is 80 mg (equivalent to two 40 mg tablets or one 80 mg tablet) orally three times a day.
(3) Dosage adjustment principle: The dosage shall be appropriately adjusted according to age and symptoms. For elderly patients with declined physiological functions, a reduced dosage is recommended as appropriate.
Medication in Special Populations
(1) Pregnant women and women of childbearing potential: This drug may only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the potential risks.
(2) Lactating women: A comprehensive assessment of the necessity of treatment and the benefits of breastfeeding shall be conducted to decide whether to continue breastfeeding or suspend the medication.
(3) Pediatric patients: Clinical trial data for children is not available, and the administration of this drug shall be cautious.
(4) Elderly patients: Due to diminished physiological functions, elderly patients are prone to adverse reactions. It is recommended to initiate treatment with a low dosage and conduct close observation.
Contraindications and Cautions
(1) Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this drug.
(2) Use with caution in patients with a history of allergy or severe hepatic and renal insufficiency; if necessary, the drug shall be used under the guidance of a physician.
Warning for Administration Mode
(1) Warning for PTP packaging: The tablets or capsules must be removed from the aluminum foil blister before administration, and the aluminum foil blister shall not be swallowed directly.(2) Accidental swallowing of the aluminum foil blister may cause esophageal mucosal injury and perforation, and even induce severe complications such as mediastinitis.

Efficacy Monitoring
(1) The remission of symptoms such as pain and spasm shall be regularly evaluated. Especially in the treatment of urinary calculi, the stone expulsion status can be observed combined with imaging examinations.
(2) Clinical studies have shown that this drug can significantly promote the expulsion of ureteral calculi, with a marked increase in the cumulative stone expulsion rate especially 10 days after medication initiation.
Adverse Reaction Monitoring
(1) Gastrointestinal system: nausea, heartburn, abdominal distension, etc.
(2) Allergic reactions: skin rash.(3) Seek medical advice promptly if the above symptoms or other discomforts occur; if necessary, discontinue the medication and take corresponding treatment measures.
Special Index Monitoring
(1) Elderly patients and patients on long-term medication shall undergo regular reexaminations of hepatic and renal functions.
(2) Discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention if allergic symptoms (e.g., skin rash, pruritus) occur.
